Civilization of the ancient India brought wisdom to this country. Values such as peaceful co-existence and cultural diversity have deeply rooted in this society for thousands of years. These values happen to coincide with the visions of We Are One International. On January 22nd, as the Republic Day of India approached, We Are One International brought members together through an Indian culture night at Mithila restaurant in the heart of Osaka!

The party started off with a presentation on India. Members followed Yumi and I to discover the richness of Indian culture. The restaurant owner Mr. Sharma from India shared his understanding of his country with everyone. After that, an exotic belly dance by Rei excited the crowd! At the end, our magician Alex performed magic shows and brought mystery and laughter to the event!

Tendoori chicken set and samosas provided by the restaurant won favorable comments from our members! Special thanks to Mithila Restaurant, belly dancer Rei, and all the participants who showed up! Your smiling faces and contentment are the reasons why we continue to strive for the better!

1月22日、ネオンが艶やかな食い倒れの街、ミナミの大歓楽街に佇むインド料理店Mithila(ミティラ)でWe Are Oneのインターナショナルパーティーが開催されました。

スタイリィッシュにドレスアップしたSandraとYumiさんの司会でパーティーがスタート。
胸の前で手のひらを合わせて「ナマステ～」、インド式挨拶の言葉の意味、ヘナタトゥーと呼ばれるボディアート、インドの建国記念日、代表的なインド料理etc.、インド独自の文化や行事についてクイズ形式で学びました。

因みに「ナマステ」という言葉は「ナマス」= “bow”(お辞儀する)と「テ」=“you”(あなた)の2語から成り、“I bow to you”(あなたに挨拶する)という意味で、なんと、私たちの活動グループ名と同じ”We are one”「私たちはひとつ」という意味合いもあるようです。あまりにでき過ぎた話にちょっと苦笑。ミティラのオーナー、Sharmaさんによるとお互いを理解し、心と心のふれあいを深める上で「ナマステ」はとても大切な言葉だそうです。またヘナタトゥーはお守りやおまじないとして模様に願いを込め、お祭りや結婚式にタトゥーのように描くボディペインティング。花嫁と花婿が横に並んで合わせて始めて１つの絵が完成するといったデザインもあるようです。

「インドは今でも一夫多妻制ですか？」と唐突な参加者からの素朴な疑問に、今回参加していたインド出身のPunithさんが急遽、アドリブ回答するという面白い場面もありました。 クイズの正解者にはチャイスティックのプレゼント。私もTrue or False Questionで適当にNoと答えて正解し、ちゃっかりスティックを１本ゲットしました。(*^^)vでも問題が一体何だったのか未だに思い出せません。(笑)

またサモサという、茹ででつぶしたジャガイモやグリンピース、コーン等を香辛料で味付けし、小麦粉の皮で包んで揚げたピラミッド型のスナックを頂きました。ナン付きカレーとタンドリーチキンのセットが特別プライスの1,000円で食べられると聞いて、それを完食してすでに満腹状態だったため、サモサは半ば強引に胃に詰め込み、味わって食べる事をすっかり忘れてしまいました。^_^; しかし、サクサクとした食感は絶品でした。

暫くして煌びやかな衣装をまとったReiさんがエキゾチックな曲に合わせて妖艶な美しい舞を披露してくれました。ベリーダンスにはトルコスタイルとエジプトスタイルがありますが今回はエジプトスタイルを鑑賞しました。「シュミ」と呼ばれる人間業とは思えない小刻みなお腹のバイブレーションが何ともセクシーでした。人間、鍛えればあんな動きができるようになるんですね。(#^.^#) 素人がやったらギックリ腰になるのが落ちかも、などと思いながら観ました。男性にとってはかなり刺激的な夜になったかも知れませんね。(笑)

華麗なベリーダンスを楽しんだ後はAlexのトランプカードを使ったマジックショー。
私自身、Alexのマジックをみるのは2回目でしたが、皆を引き込んでしまう軽妙な話術と見事な手さばきには驚かされっぱなしでした。一人が選んだ一枚のカードがAlexのポケットの中から出てきたかと思えば、今度は天井に貼り付いちゃってるし・・・何がどうなったらああなるのか・・・謎です。（笑）

お店のオーナーSharmaさんは手相占いでも有名な方らしく、当日占ってもらうのを楽しみにしていたのですが、騒がしい処ではインスピレーションが湧いてこないので今日は無理と残念ながら見てもらえませんでした。今度またお店に足を運んで人生相談でもしてみようと思います。（笑）

随分長々と書いてしまいましたが、今回も大勢の方々とインド料理を食べながらお話をする事ができ、新しい友達もインドに関する雑学知識も増え、盛りだくさんで楽しいひと時を過ごす事ができました。
次回は中国の旧正月パーティー、楽しみですね。(*^_^*)
